Abstract

Seaweed is known to contain phenolic compounds that are useful as cosmetic ingredients that can inhibit premature aging because they are a source of antioxidants that play a role in neutralizing free radicals. The aim of the study was to determine the chemical characteristics of Caulerpa racemosa, Padina australis and Sargassum polycystum from Natuna waters as cosmetic preparations. The research was carried out in three stages: sample preparation, seaweed extraction and the last stage was identification of phytochemical compounds, testing of SPF values ??and testing of antioxidants. The data were analyzed qualitatively on phytochemical testing, and quantitatively for calculating yield values, antioxidant testing, and testing SPF values. Extracts Caulerpa racemosa, Padina australis and Sargassum polycystum found in Natuna waters have yields of 5,47%, 2,14%, 2,37% and contain phytochemical compounds such as alkaloids, saponins and tannins. The antioxidant values ??are 19,959 ppm, 36,067 ppm and 37,306 ppm, which are classified as very strong and the SPF value is 21,54±2,31; 14,11±1,67 and 11,88±0,98. Based on the research results, Caulerpa racemosa, Padina australis and Sargassum polycystum found in Natuna waters have the potential to be used as cosmetic preparations as skin protection from free radicals.
