Abstract

The benefit of fish processing is to increase the economic value and impede the fish decay process. By implementing diversification method, it is envisaged that the income of coastal communities can be improved through augmenting the use of abundant low-cost fish in Pengambengan for instance lizardfish (Synodontidae), scad fish (Decapterus macarellus) and lemuru (Sardinella lemuru). The aim of this community service is to give valuable practices by way of altering the behaviour of local inhabitants in optimizing local natural resources through recent technologies. The activity was carried out using three approaches consisting of providing processed diversification material, conducting joint processing practice activities, and assisting target groups. The mentoring courses were attended by two target groups, namely Poklahsar Tanjung Cemara and Poklahsar Tanjung Wangi. The practices were composed of fish sauce, shredded fish and fish cake subjects. During the practice, the group was tremendously active in participating and eager to endavour the lesson at their home altogether. Overall, the results of mentoring showed that the target groups had implemented diversification process and sold above-mentioned valuable products, which was successfully increasing the side income of all group members.
